Meet Our Liaisons

Behind every successful community initiative is a team of passionate individuals who make connection possible. Our liaisons are the heart of our outreach efforts—they are the trusted guides who ensure that every resident feels heard, supported, and empowered. They don’t just represent our organization; they embody our mission to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

What makes our liaisons unique is their ability to bridge gaps. They listen to your concerns, understand your needs, and work tirelessly to connect you with resources that make a real difference. Whether it’s helping families access vital services, organizing community events, or fostering partnerships with local organizations, our liaisons are there every step of the way.

Meeting our liaisons means meeting advocates who care deeply about your success. They bring diverse backgrounds, expertise, and a shared commitment to creating opportunities for growth and collaboration. Each liaison plays a vital role in shaping the future of our community, and now, we invite you to get to know them better.

The Hub Liaison
In 2010, after retiring from a long career in corporate America, I turned my focus to what had been pulling at me for decades, the need to address race, not as a biological reality, but as the deeply ingrained social construct that has shaped the American experience. My years in the corporate world had given me first-hand exposure to microaggressions, unspoken biases, and the ways in which racial hierarchy quietly, yet powerfully, influences opportunity and perception. I knew these patterns weren’t isolated to boardrooms; they were part of a centuries-old narrative written into the fabric of our nation. In 2017, I began laying the groundwork for RaceWithoutIsm Inc, a platform to explore American history without filters, without omissions, and without sugarcoating. The goal was simple but radical: to trace the origins of race in the United States and show how this human-made idea has been used to divide, rank, and control. In June 2018, RaceWithoutIsm became an official nonprofit in the State of Florida, and by 2021, we were granted 501(c)(3) status. These milestones marked more than just paperwork — they formalized a mission that had been decades in the making.

David Hassett was born and raised in New York until the age of 10, after which he moved to Florida, eventually settling in St. Petersburg at the start of high school. David’s life story is a testament to resilience and the power of choosing how to define oneself. Despite facing significant challenges—including poverty, homelessness as an adolescent, the long-term impact of a sibling’s medical condition, and struggles with substance use and mental health—David refused to let these labels dictate his future.Through perseverance and dedication to his personal growth, David overcame his substance use and mental health diagnoses. He pursued education and employment opportunities that allowed him to transition off SSI and build a stable, fulfilling life. Once considered the least likely to “get it together,” David transformed his life through determination and self-advocacy.Today, David is a multi-certified addiction professional and serves as Program Manager at WestCare Gulf Coast – A Turning Point, overseeing shelter and intervention-level care for up to 65 individuals at a time. His work focuses on supporting homeless individuals struggling with substance use disorders and mental health challenges.David’s commitment to his community extends beyond his professional role. He became involved with St. Pete Hub out of a deep love for the city he calls home. As a St. Petersburg Community Liaison, he believes that sometimes all it takes to help someone seek support is a friend’s encouragement. David strives to be that friend, bridging the gap between community members in need and the resources that can help them transform their lives.
